You know… that Blog?

January, and all is… well, it’s January.

Well hello there!

Yes, I know it’s been a long time. Yes, yes, I’m sorry about that. I just fizzled out, and the last few months have been rough. Yes, I’m ok, thanks for asking. No, really, I’m fine, it’s just been a non-blogworthy few months is all.

So how have you been? It’s been quiet in Blogosphere from what I’ve been seeing. 2013 was not a great year. Nothing really horrific, just… meh.

The holidays were quiet, and for the first time we didn’t host a single party, or entertain even once. In fact, the tree and all decorations (that weren’t encased in snow and ice outside, to be dealt with during the next thaw!) were down and safely packed away by December 27th. We just didn’t feel it this year. I’m not into the presents anymore. Christmas has morphed from special and magical to just expensive and stressful. It probably wouldn’t have been so had we actually thrown a party or two and socialized, but schedules just didn’t work out with friends this year – everyone was thrown into the same chaotic loop and crossing schedules. We got together for a really great evening with friends shortly after Christmas, which was really nice, and for the first time in a LONG time we went out on New Year’s Eve and partied into the wee hours!

Yeah, about that… I have no idea why I brought it, but my iPad came along for NYE celebrations. We were planning to sing, and with my Fibro-brain, some of our newer songs just aren’t sticking, so I tend to drag the trusty song-carrying iPad along with me wherever I go. The weather was really lousy, and as I had a job just keeping on my feet in heels as we left our friends’ place to get to our car, I had the Hubby carrying the iPad. We were driving, and he knew he had to clear out the back seat a little (wee one sets up camp in the back seat, so her stuff was everywhere). So… he put my iPad on the roof and got to clearing her things out and throwing it all into the trunk.

I’m sure you can tell where this is going.

Off we went, a 20+ minute drive to the next city over, where we got a great parking spot and settled in to greeting friends and ordering drinks. A few minutes later I said to the Hubby: “Oh we left the iPad in the car!”

His face went instantly white. He knew in that split second what he’d done. He was out the door in a flash, and back a few minutes later to tell me that it wasn’t there, and that he’d left it on the roof of the car.

I kept my cool. I didn’t blame him. He clearly felt horrible. “Wow. Well, that sucks. It’s ok, accidents happen.”

He said he was going to go look for it, and he left to retrace our steps. Keep in mind that it was a lengthy drive to get where we were, so I didn’t hold out much hope that he’d find it. I got on my phone and logged into and marked the iPad as lost, and put in a message with my phone number that would pop up on it the next time it tried to connect to the internet, in case someone found it and was decent enough to call. It also would allow me to track where it was, which is really a nifty feature (Thanks, Apple!).

About half an hour later though, Hubby called to tell me he actually found it! On a busy road near a gas station. And it had been run over many, many times.

So… ok, I had closure at least, it wasn’t still out there, with people trying to crack it and get to my stuff (which was really just music and a few games, no security issues there). I asked him to put it somewhere so I wouldn’t see it until later, and then he came back (got the same parking spot! I guess people don’t like to parallel park?) and we concentrated on having a good time with friends. It was a good time. Sure, it clouded my evening, but I tried to get past it, anyway.

I figured it happened in 2013, and 2014 is a fresh, new year, so things will be looking up from here on!

We got home around 3am (*Yawn*) and were upstairs getting settled in when an alarm went off downstairs. I shot down the stairs, and it was the iPad! “You’re KIDDING me.” I hadn’t seen it yet, but there it was on the hall table, yelling for attention. I opened up the leather case, and the message I had put up on was staring up at me! Well, I am pretty sure that’s what it was, because the entire glass screen was shattered. Still, it was clearly still alive!

I took it upstairs and plugged it in to my computer, and it actually connected to iTunes! I got all of the pictures and video downloaded, and was able to see the interaction in iTunes – so maybe maybe it can be saved, and we’ll just have to replace the screen! I’ll be taking it in some time this week when I get a chance. I think maybe the leather case I bought (and spent way too much on! Hey, maybe not, eh?) may have saved the Hubby’s its life!

The interior of the leather case is embedded with shards of glass, and the exterior is coated in road salt, dirt, and tire tracks – I’m going to keep it and try to clean it up though; together, they have quite the story to tell!

I’m looking forward to 2014 and the promise it holds.

I hope you have a very Happy New Year, too!

Feedly sucks. What do you use?

Written By: Jenn - Sep• 17•13

I’m really mourning the loss of the iGoogle widget I used to use for following blogs. It was one of my 3 homepages (pages that load as soon as I open my browser), and now I don’t bother because there’s nothing valuable left to see for those widgets, and iGoogle is going away as of November 1st.

I REALLY don’t get why Google would do away with one of the only really nice features they’ve got. I tried – I mean I really tried – to like Google+. It’s just fugly, folks. It’s clunky and not at all enjoyable. I’ll stick to Facebook, thanks. I just don’t like anything Google oriented unless I’m searching for something. In that one case, Google is unparalleled. More power to them for continuing to develop new things, but they’re clearly not doing it with me in mind, because nothing else that they do holds any interest for me. Pity. Could it be because I’m 39 (+7 anniversaries of that birthday – and yes, I completely ignored it this year due to the nonsense with Coke, which was more important) and past the age they want to cater to? Maybe.

Anyway…! What prompted me to write today was the lack of really good RSS readers out there. At least, I haven’t found any that strike my fancy. I tried and I’m still using Feedly, but… it really sucks. I don’t like it at all. The interface is boring, and I need something that alerts me to new posts so I’ll actually go and read them! That little green static button beside the address bar? Doing nothing? So easy to ignore. I usually forget to go and look for new posts, so consequently, I haven’t been catching up with all of my bloggy buddies! If that button did a little dance, or emitted some sort of glow when there were new posts? I might actually pay attention to it.

Look at it!

BO-RING! Oh, and yes, I’m using Waterfox now – what a great browser! Fast and no issues in the months I’ve been using it. I’m in tech-love with it.

The last few months I’ve been on a bit of a blog hiatus – I just didn’t have much desire to write, so I let it lapse. That means – since I’ve let readers down – a total of 3 people might actually read this post! I figure if blogging becomes a chore, then it’s not worth doing anymore, because the enjoyment is gone. Take a break.

On the off chance that I haven’t lost 100% of my readers, I’d like to hear from you! What RSS reader do you use? What’s good about it? Where do I find it? What are we having for dinner tonight? (…thought I’d throw that in in case you wanted to cook for me)

Yowsa… spicy!

Written By: Jenn - Aug• 02•13

If you’ve been around a while, you may know that I’m not a fan of spicy food. Or… maybe you don’t. No matter! I’m not, nor is the Hubby or the girls. So why, then, am I sitting here with my mouth on fire, continuing to shovel this stuff into my face??

Because it is SO SO good, that’s why. Sweet, spicy… and bloody addictive. Say it with me now; Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce. Doesn’t that just make your mouth water??

I got it at Costco after I had some at my folks’ place a couple weekends ago. This stuff is good with just about anything! Use it as a salsa with chips, as a marinade, a burger condiment, over meat or fish on the BBQ or in the oven, and even in the crock pot! So versatile.

I purposely haven’t looked at the nutrient panel on the bottle, because I just don’t want to know how much sugar is in it. A lot, I’m sure.

I did find a recipe online today though, so I’m going to be making it when we get through this bottle… which won’t be too long.

Please head on over to see Lori at “Our Forever House” and get her spot-on recreation of this wonderful, addictive stuff. Say Hi for me!

How are you spending your long weekend (assuming you’re looking at one this weekend)? I’m so lucky… we’re cleaning out our garage. Yes, that was sarcasm. Yeah yeah, I know it’s necessary, and we’re running out of time to get it done – the Teen will need a vehicle to commute back & forth to college come September, which will mean an additional vehicle in our household – but geez. I could think of so many different ways I’d rather spend a glorious, sunny long weekend. You see… it’s JAM PACKED with boxes from our move. Yes, I realize that was 10 months ago. Yes, I know we should have dealt with it before now. Get off my back, will you??

Well, maybe it won’t take the whole weekend. A girl can dream, right?
