Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”

The basics: Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)

Here are the rules:

Structure: While Haiku may be written by some in other styles, for THIS meme only 5-7-5 is acceptable. At least one of your haiku must be in this format.
Theme/Prompt: We have a new prompt each week, and your haiku needs to be related to it, if not include the actual word in it. Feel free to leave a word suggestion in a comment!
Linking: When you post your link, link to the blog post with your haiku, not to the main page of your blog.
Reciprocate: If you participate and post your link on my website, you must have a link back here on your post. It’s only fair.

Folks not complying with the above risk having their links removed. Don’t make me be all “Grrrr” and stuff, it makes me grumpy! Thanks for your cooperation!

P.S. This is a really busy time for me – I may not get around to everyone each week. Sorry about that, but unfortunately I need to attend to business before pleasure!

This week’s theme is: Boredom

    Hot. So very hot.
Sun warms the waters too much
    Swimming pool or bath?

8 weeks of boredom
Thwarted by horses and friends
Summer vacation

    Therapy needed
    Haiku keeps me moving on
    Not much else written!

Time away from kids
Enforced relaxation? Yessssss

*** Please read the 4 simple guidelines above before you post your link.

₪ Next week’s theme: Middle

“Middle”? Well, I was thinking first of “Birthday”, but then, I don’t celebrate those anymore, do I ;) This weekend I should be 45, but since I no longer celebrate birthdays, I’m instead having the 6th anniversary of my 39th (and last) birthday! Anyway, I figure I’m well and truly “middle aged” now, so that’s the word that seems to stick.

My hubby is whisking me away to an undisclosed US state for some long overdue alone time (and shopping), so I’ll see you next week!

Folks, a quick note about comments: A few of you don’t have Name/URL enabled on your blogs, and I CAN’T comment in that case. Take a moment to enable that, will you? There are other ways to combat spam and still allow people with their own domains to leave their homage to your greatness ;)

Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List (if you’re not listed and should be, please [politely] let me know!)

To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):

You can also choose to use only a text link, or either of these additional images I made for your use! Use This one (dark), or This one (light)!

You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed. Both comments and pings are currently closed.

  1. A varied collection on boredom. Nicely done.

  2. unfetteredbs says:

    I like your haiku..summertime 8 weeks.nice!

  3. HaikuWater says:

You capture the curse of Summer vacation well — since everyone else sends their kids to 8 weeks of camp, then there is no one around and nothing to do.

  4. tara tyler says:

the pool was not refreshing relief on our vacation either. even the ocean was warm!

  5. The kids may be annoyingly bored, but I sure wish I was…

Definitely feeling your pain over here!

  6. becca givens says:

Enjoy your time away together!! :)

  7. joanne says:

Summer will end before we know it, and then we’ll have long and boring winter nites!

  8. lessandra says:

I am thoroughly enjoying this! It’s fun creating haiku but to have a form and theme to participate in is even more fun – thank you so much Jenn! (Not to mention all the new friends I’ve met through haiku :) Yea!

  9. lessandra says:

Sorry about that – I just entered twice by mistake.

  10. Michele says:

    No more Wi-Fi at
my house. The neighbors moved out.
    Time to get my own.

  11. Kendall says:

A challenging prompt word. May I pretty please be added to the Hooked on Haiku list? I promise it’s been more than three times now. Honest to goodness.

  12. lessandra says:

Excuse me Jenn, I will have to differ with you re your age – you are not nearly middle-aged yet. That starts around 62-68 and then stretches maybe through some of the 70’s (I’m 73 next week) and now I’m definitely middle-aged. My husband, I think, is now considered elderly (he will be 85 next week) – but in my mind he better act like he always has when I married him when he was 60!! (He tells folks he’s celebrating his 46th anniversary of his 39th birthday. Happy Birthday!

  13. siggiofmaine says:

Enjoyed the prompt…but too easy these days to find examples of boredom ? Showing my age !

  15. Glad to be back. I hope I did this right.
