You know… that Blog?

In love, after all these years…

Written By: Jenn - May• 30•10

I’m in love.

I know; at 42, almost 43 (July 22 – mark your calendars) I’m a bit long in the tooth to be experiencing love like this. Sometimes it just hits you though, out of the blue. I certainly didn’t plan it – definitely didn’t go looking for it. I mean, why would I? I’ve been quite happy all these years with the way things have been going.

But a week or so ago I got this text message, you see. It was provocative. It was quiet but intense, and it spoke to me in ways that… well, lets just say it’s been a while.

I didn’t respond to it. How could I? Definitely I thought about it. Seemed that I couldn’t think of anything else! In the end, I didn’t do anything for a couple of days, because… really? I didn’t think I was ready.

So many thoughts running through my head.

Could it have been meant for someone else? Well, no, I knew who it was from, and I am definitely well known by the texter. I should probably own up here: …we’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship for years. It’s true.

Was the text meant to “test the waters”? Most definitely, yes. Of that I had no doubt.

If I did this… was it going to cost me big time? Come around and bite me in the butt?

Girding my loins, I decided to go see what prompted that text to be sent. What could it hurt just to talk, right? Not like I was going to jump into a relationship at whim… right?

Welllll… maybe. It was love at first sight.

Ok, that was a big build up for a phone. Ok, “iPhone”.

Seriously though? What a phone it is…! It’s not that it’s slim, and shiny. It’s not that it allows me to be in contact with everyone via whatever means I prefer, anywhere and at any time. It’s not that I have everything at my fingertips, all the time.

It’s the apps, folks. The apps!

Gimme a second.

Ok, I’m fine now.

I downloaded several music apps for use with Main Street rehearsal, including ClearTune ($3.99), which had been highly recommended as a tuning/pitchpipe app – I really like it. I also got silly ones like a tambourine app that is totally useless but makes me smile.

Here are some (FREE!) cool, fun, or otherwise useful apps that deck out my 8 page (and counting) collection so far:

  • CardStar – don’t bulk up your wallet carrying tons of loyalty cards, or weigh down your key chain with them! Generates different types of readout, including a scannable bar code!
  • Fake Caller – want out of a date/party/chance meeting? This is for you.
  • Naturally I got the Zippo lighter app.
  • Google apps (Google Earth, Google search, etc.)
  • Want to try GeoCaching? This tool kit is a must-have!
  • GPS Lite by MotionX

Now we’re cooking! And “yes… there’s an app for that”, too. Hundreds of ’em.

There are SO many more, but for now I’d really like to hear about the apps that YOU can’t live without. Share?

I got A Droid Incredible several weeks ago, (the day after they came out) I love mine and my apps. I have the loyalty card app – and an app that we ( me, my husband, my daughter) can all create a shared shopping list. I have nascar app, a mets app, a to dolist app…….

I must be getting old. A digital lighter? Why? To me it is virtually ridiculous.

It’s just a fun thing Q – and in fact a number of our friends used theirs when we were singing for them a few months ago. It was hilarious! :D If that’s all I ever use it for, it has more than paid for itself (since it was a free app, easy to do…)

Well finally welcome to the club. I don’t know if you know this but they are releasing their new model next month. So rumor has it and it’s always been in June. However I am most likely getting rid of my iphone and going with the EVGO from Sprint. Long story with ATT. Besides I have my iPad and i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I use it more now than my iPhone. Check out Shaazam, Dropbox, 1Password, iTV, Face Melter, iFart LOL. Congrats my friend. Happy for you. :)

Strangely, iFart does not appeal to me, Thom. If that makes me old (avec Quilly) then so be it! ;) I knew about the new version coming out, but the 3G will be a-ok for me for the next 2-3 years.

I was thinking about the iPad, but I can’t justify it – I have 2 laptops now, plus this beloved phone… I’m happy!

Like Betty, I feel left out and jealous!! Very cool.

I was at a conference on the weekend. I learned 3 new songs and two of them had actions to them (they were NZ Maori Kapahaka) which was awesome. :)

  8. Congratulations!

Now you have to name your lover. Mine is Jude, because he’s a beautiful, naughty distraction.

My fave apps are Toodledo, Whole Foods, and the Louvre.

    Enjoy!

I am sadly behind the times when it comes to phone technology — my son has an i-Touch and is always excited when he finds a cool new app. Enjoy your time with your new love :D
