Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”
Click here for info and background on this weekly event!
The basics:
Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)
This week’s theme is: Freestyle – whatever you want!
Brush of warm fingers
Unshaven cheek, nape of neck
Toes curling, a sighWhispers of worry
Petty small annoyances
Raised voices, heatedCalloused palm, smooth palm
Fingers entwine, a soft word
Serendipity
Next week’s theme: Direction
Note: Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List
To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):
I am confused. Is freestyle this week? I’m asking because Thom and Amanda have done “Direction” and I don’t know what to do so I think I will just sit and cry! (It isn’t a good solution, but it might make people feel sorry for me — except Thom of course who will make fun of me.)
It’s my fault – I had “Direction” up VERY briefly but then realized we were supposed to have Freestyle this week (every 10 weeks) and changed it. I had hoped no one noticed, but I guess those two are really on the ball!!! Sorry Quilly – you can do whatever you like :)
Jenn — I most always do as I like anyway! ;)
I did freestyle. Mine’s up even though Comment Love doesn’t think so.
Your first two poems are great but I had a house-guest who ruined the word serendipity for me. I never hear it without my stomach clenching in a knot. I would love to have the freedom and joy of that word back, but it is as gone as the houseplants she dumped out of their planters (freeing them) into a pile in my lawn and all the other things she destroyed in the name of freedom because “serendipity lead her to me to lighten my life”. She lightened my pocketbook and my cupboards (tossed out all the plastic), but not my mood.
Ohhh I’more than on the ball. LOL. When I was reading yours I thought what is the direction. And then I thought must have something to do with serendipity cuz I have no clue what that means. And before you say anything. Yes I’m to lazy to look it up. Great haikus. Just pretend mine is Freestyle. LOL
Your haikus really conjure up great images in my mind. Excellent. Great use of the senses.
All mine are halloween themed. :O)
Oh and thanks for posting up next week’s theme in advance. :O)))
Diwali – The Festival of Lights is just around the corner after Halloween. I’m off on a vacation to my Ancestral Home to celebrate it with my family and friends. :) This post is just happening because I am going to relive all those happy memories I have there. :)
Hope to catch up with everything when I get back. Have a great time everybody and Happy Halloween in advance!! :D
Fingers entwining can lead to wonderful outcomes…
Recently I penned down these Haiku about a beautiful flower, “Jasmine”. Love to share it here.. Jenn can you link it up.. I have some trouble in viewing the link..

Oh well I did direction too. thats OK I can do it again next week as well, at least being free style I am safe!
when my own palms meet and my fingers entwine, it sends me deep in prayer for all those worries and annoyances to go away.
i got confused with the theme also. i posted a “direction” haiku, jenn. but as thom said, “just pretend mine is freestyle.” :D
btw, i will go on a break starting this saturday so forgive me if i won’t be able to join SHW in the next 2 weeks. i will surely miss the fun.
We will miss you! Have a great vacation :)
Wow, lovely imagery there, J!! Love them :)
Have a crazy day but I will be back to read! Have fun everyone.
Sorry I’m in a bit of a rush – checking in from the Rocky Mountains! Will post shortly and link up. Great job with the haikus Jenn!
I especially liked the first of your three poems above – just lovely, warming. Hey, so freestyle – cool!
My younger bro recently moved in with me…It seems I talk about sports a lot more now. I asked him for a topic for this write and he said football.
