Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”

Click here for info and background on this weekly event!

The basics:

Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)

This week’s theme is: Distance

    Long distance. Again.
No contact, no hugs, no smiles.
    Getting used to it!

Going the distance
Easy doesn’t enter in
Do what you have to

    Horizon. So far.
    Quiet. Empty. Far too close.
    Prefer you right here!

♫ I will find my way
Yes, I can go the distance
I’ll be there some day…♪

Folks, a quick note about comments: A few of you don’t have Name/URL enabled on your blogs, and I CAN’T comment in that case. Take a moment to enable that, will you? There are other ways to combat spam and still allow people with their own domains to leave their homage to your greatness ;)

Next week’s theme: Manners

Note: Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List (if you’re not listed and should be, please [politely] let me know!)

To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):

I am so impressed with all of your haikus! I struggled with my one and even had my mom help! lol

    • Jenn says:

Thanks Becca :) I just sit and think about what distance means for me. #1 means J-B is in China! I miss him!

  2. Oh, those distant horizons! Sometimes they seem so unreachable!

  3. Amanda Moore says:

the first is sad I have been there before it sucks! BTW no Thom this month he is on Hiatus again having fun! = )

    • Jenn says:

Yeah, I’ve been chatting with Thom – he suckered me into Google+ but it’s not working properly in FF (my chat list gets chopped for some reason??)

The first haiku is just me missing J-B while he’s off exploring the world again. He’s teaching in China for a few weeks with his wife. I’m sure they’re having an amazing adventure :)

  4. Jenn says:

KayKuala – would love to comment on your great haiku, but can’t leave a message on your blog because you don’t have Name/URL enabled! If you need some help with that, I wrote a post about it a while back: http://youknowthatblog.com/2009/08/08/blog-tools

  5. Nanka says:

Lovely Haiku’s !! …..and distances do make the heart grow fonder too!!
???? Loved the last one so positive, a song for one to sing!! ????

  6. Verse inspiration
keeps its distance from my mind.
    Haiku eludes me.

I had better luck with my acrostic limerick than I did with haiku today. :)

  7. Madeleine says:

The first one sucks, not the poem, the feeling.
