Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”

Click here for info and background on this weekly event!
    The basics:

Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!) – join us and try it today!

This week’s theme is: School

    Long, lengthy summer
    Bored kids, hard working parents
    Cannot wait for school!

Work hard and study
Future so bright, so open
But it’s not easy

    Meet new friends, teacher
    Shy, awkward moments will pass
    Enjoy special time

Dancing parents laugh
Wave at ticked offspring, rejoice
House is ours again!

Next week’s theme: Numbers In celebration of a milestone birthday!

Note: Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List (if you’re not listed and should be, please [politely] let me know!)

To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):

    Loved your Haikus
    Loved this weeks theme.
I’m a first time player, thank you for hosting…G

Hey G Man – welcome aboard! So I guess you’re saying someone’s team will get “schooled” at some point? ;)

Glad to have you join us! Next week’s prompt will be “Numbers”.

I can’t comment on your blog because you’ve only allowed Blogger accounts to do that, and I don’t use them. You’ll find that a lot I think – lots of us have our own hosted domains so we need the Name/URL fields to be able to leave you a comment…

oh these are so cute! I hated to see summer vacation end since I work weekends the school time off was the only time I had with the girls when they were young. I loved the last one too funny!

  3. I have been teaching for many years! It can be tough at times, but there are so many rewards too! I wouldn’t change! Love the range of advice and feelings in these haikus!

  4. My school haiku turned into tanka: Sundry Haiku and Tanka

Thanks for a fun prompt and good haiku!

  5. Urailak says:

I cannot relate to your poem because we homeschool and I love having my kids at home everyday :).

  6. tara tyler says:

hee hee, fall is my favorite season. the red leaves, the orange pumpkins and the yellow school buses!

  7. The last stanza of your set is especially hilarious–except that your house belongs to you again only because your kids belong to us teachers for the day! :-)

As you can see, Jenn, I got carried away with this week’s theme. Wonder why? :-)

    • Jenn says:

Knew this one would appeal to you!

I’m quite happy to pass them both into the capable hands of their teachers… at least during school hours anyway :)

  8. This was right up my alley, since I write a lot of haiku AND my son’s going back to school soon! (Thanks to G-Man for pointing me here!)

  9. Nanka says:

You have beautiful memories of school Jenn :)
The parents rejoice to have the house all for themselves lol!! …and I’m sure the teachers enjoy the sweet music of chatter back in their classrooms. :)

  10. Love the prompt…I always think when school starts I should be learning something…I can remember the days I rejoiced for the quiet on the first day…love your poem!!

REminds me of that Staples commercial with the music for “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” in the background!

Angie’s off for her second year at Temple. Has an oncampus apartment – she’s so excited about the kitchen – but she loves to cook. Once again, I’m getting used to cooking for 2!

  12. Laurie says:

Last minute my post just melded with your prompt. Thank you again and wonderful week to you. Next week it’s all about numbers but a milestone? Hmmm…??? Wonder who’s milestone it’ll be about.?

  13. madeleine says:

Lovely selection that really gives the feel for the word. I don’t have children, so mine would have been from my own childhood. Afraid i didn’t post this week. x

  14. Tigerbrite says:

    My little haiku is true.
Only it is 45 years but that would be too many syllables :)

  15. great haiku, Jenn. i especially love “Dancing parents laugh.” thanks for the prompt.
