Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”
Click here for info and background on this weekly event!
The basics:
Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)
This week’s theme is: Shadow
Veiled in lightness, smiles
Undercurrents of something
Too strong to followSteamy shadows lurk
Welcome… and yet forbidden
Desire rules, a dream
Many years to go
Shadows of past laughter. Life.
Quiet now. So still.Where to go from here?
Actions speak louder than words
Don’t talk. Just show me.
Folks, a quick note about comments: I do visit everyone, but a few of you don’t have Name/URL enabled on your blogs, and I CAN’T comment in that case (and prefer not to have to email). Take a moment to enable that, will you? There are other ways to combat spam and still allow people with their own domains to leave their homage to your greatness ;)
Next week’s theme: Freestyle (anything you want)
Note: Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List
To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):
so glad to have come across this site – looking forward to frequenting!
I have to say this was one of the hardest words that you have ever posted. You did great with this. I like them all but the second to the last one is my favorite :)
Sometimes shadows can be so beautiful, and sometimes that can project a false beauty! Great prompt!
Like Thom, I like the second to the last one best — I also agree that this word was hard to work with. It made me think when all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep.
I hear a bell that
*tinkles* as someone looks for
an errant shadow.
Love the enigma of this! I am guessing here is a wandering cat and worried owner!
they can be slippery creatures … nicely expressed!
Sounds like a fairy in the distance, methinks. Perhaps mine has come to visit!
This was quite a challenge … and I then … I traveled “home” to South Louisiana … and two joined the fun! I posted my first. Thank you for hosting …
after a long time I am here to share my Haiku… http://pendownmythought.blogspot.com/2011/04/beautiful-life.html

this is a beautiful topic.
your haikus are fabulous, you are a true artist of haikus.
A lovely theme and a great site!
I wrote this shadow haiku in February and haven’t been able to come up with another one.
Wow, the contrast comes across so clearly. I particularly like the word choice, diction, of dream and desire. Hope the past laughter fills the silence once again, if so wanted. Wishing you the best and a special thank you for making a difficult day happier with haiku!
The first piece I entered is in the form of Hay(na)ku. The second piece is more traditional Haiku. I hope you enjoy both!
Steamy shadows? Now there’s an image to conjure with.
I have scheduled an Easter Day haiku post. :O)
Here is mine

oops! sorry to duplicate~i didn’t think the comment had posted.
It’s Friday morning and the Linky is still open–I’m thrilled! Thank you, Jenn!
Hey there! Yeah, I’ve been having a crazy couple of days – haven’t even visited everyone yet, which I’m about to do. We’ve had 3 people pass away on my husband’s side just this past week, with the last one this morning. Crazy.
My first time here! Mine was based on the shadow that has loomed over Barack Obama’s presidency because of the “birther” Tea Party waste of time. Two other poems on this post as well… Thanks! Amy Barlow Liberatore
