Sensational Haiku Wednesday

The basics:
Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)
This week’s theme is: Doldrums
Listless, bored, a yawn
Frigid air, snow cocoon, dark
Yearning for the springSunshine on the face
Awakening to fresh air
Tunnel end; the lightA fugue state achieved
Voices from afar, so faint
Too far gone to care
Notice anything different? Yeah… I had an accident… it’s sort of fixed, but not yet to my liking.
About this week’s theme; “Doldrums” – originally a nautical term (an equatorial “zone” notorious for trapping sailing ships for varying periods of time without enough wind to power their sails.), it has become more widely used in the colloquial as “stagnant, inactive, in a slump” and other similar low feelings. It is an appropriate theme for this time of year, when so many people are feeling the winter blahs. More appropriately known as “S.A.D.” or Seasonal Affective Disorder. Shorter days and longer nights can make for a depressing cloud descending over a person! For me, it’s noticeable only if you spend a lot of time with me and know me really well. Or if… you know… I talk about it.
Sunlight is the key; it’s a solar recharge to your psyche. Too long out of the light and I fade like a cheap battery. You know what they say… “Knowing is half the battle”. Another great reason to get outside in the sun, yes?

Sheer coincidence!! Doldrums got us both thinking from ‘listless’. All your Haiku’s ended on a high note but mine is still in the doldrums, waiting for the sails to billow.

Hope you’re getting plenty of sunlight, we’ve had a few really sunny days recently which seems to have lifted everyone’s spirits.
Toronto is confirmed for March, hotel provisionaly reserved and hopefully I’ll book some flights this week, I’ll let you know dates once I’ve got my flight options!

I suffer from SAD and used to have a full spectrum lamp. Then I moved to Hawaii where I didn’t need it — and now I am back in the PNW and wanting another!

So many people seem to get that listless feeling in the winter. Winter energizes and invigorates me. I love the cold, the way the air smell when it’s cold, the sharpness and crispness. I love the light in the winter, sunlight has a different tone, everything looks so sharp and colors pop out. And snow!! I love the snow! So my haiku is kind of in another direction.
I’m digging the new look of the blog!! Lovely :) But I miss the pictures!!! Awesome haiku today, girlfriend!
