Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”

Click here for info and background on this weekly event!

The basics:

Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)

This week’s theme is: Dare

    Some dare to compare
The forest to the lone tree
    Stand and be counted

Sidelong, quick glances
Bright and showy, the feathers
Lacking in substance

    Deep and dark; challenge
    Consider. Ponder. Accept.
    Reach a new level.

Absent minded, pause
Weekly challenge? A new word!
Question marks… my bad.

Oh man, my abject apologies for not getting around to visit last week, everyone! I am swamped with my contract just now and trying to keep my head above water. What is my contract? Well, I could tell you, but then I’d have to… well, you know. I’ll visit you this week, I promise! Does anyone need to be added to the Hooked on Haiku List?? I haven’t had a chance to sit and count posts for a while. Let me know if I’ve missed you!

Folks, a quick note about comments: A few of you don’t have Name/URL enabled on your blogs, and I CAN’T comment in that case. Take a moment to enable that, will you? There are other ways to combat spam and still allow people with their own domains to leave their homage to your greatness ;)

Next week’s theme: Flare

Note: Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List (if you’re not listed and should be, please [politely] let me know!)

To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):

I can’t recall you EVER visiting!!!
    Loved your Haikus….G-Man

  2. Nanka says:

Wishing you good luck in your activity which is holding you back from here!!

  3. Donna says:

The lone tree, what imagery, and great way to open my morning. Thank you for your keen insight. My bad…gave me a chuckle. Wonderful, as per usual…you’re good!

    • Jenn says:

Donna – I wrote those at 11:55 last night when I was just about to pack it in, and remembered what day it was. Those are the result of a panicked mind ;)

  4. What a nice idea to write on every wednesday a haiku. I have written mine with the item DARE on my haikublog.

  5. G-Man says:

    Sorry about the comment snafu.
I didn’t set my own blog up
    Plus I’m very Low-Tech
Please see if I corrected the problem…OK?

  6. madeleine says:

Now my brain is a little clearer I must post something for this challenge.
Great haiku from you as always you have such profound thoughts :O)

  7. tara tyler says:

    wonderful application!

  8. becca givens says:

Treading water is sometimes the only thing we can do until the storm calms enough to swim!! Thank you for hosting in the midst of the complexities of daily life!!

  9. Margo Benson says:

These are fabulous – I especially like the first one. You’ve captured differing moods so beautifully but with anticipating undercurrents. I hope to be back in Haiku land next week.

  10. I always love the haikus you write to introduce the prompt. I especially like the second one…I think I have seen that plumage :)

  11. Amanda says:

Jenn your Haiku are always so deep they make a person think… love that last one!

  12. Laurie says:

I know how that goes with drowning in work, I’m assuming. I’m finally seeing open water after a ridiculously busy month (praying it stays that way).
I like how you worked the situation into your haiku.
    Have a great week!

  13. Hazel says:

I agree with Susie (been reading several previous haikus you wrote to introduce themes). The third especially speaks to me nowadays.

  14. Rinkly Rimes says:

I’m daring to add my offering to the list! How’s that for bravery?

  15. Let’s see, this week is “dare,” and next week is “flare.” It seems as though you have a rhyming thing going on, so you could it extend it for several more weeks with “chair,” and “hair,” and “underwear”! Heck, while you’re at it, you could go for “prepare,” “disrepair,” and “millionaire.” Want me to go on? Nah, I didn’t think so! :-)

  16. I just saw that my name is on the list! Three in a row, not bad. Thanks, Jenn, for your meme.

  17. Dr.FTSE says:

    Who could refuse Jenn’s dare!

  18. Tigerbrite says:

    Thanks Jenn, sorry….
