Things that make me happy

Written By: Jenn - Oct• 28•10

There are things in this life that make me happy, and there are people in my life that bring me such joy.

It’s not the monumental events and grandiose gestures that mean the most though… it’s the little things.

Like when Wee One puts her arms around me and says “You’re so beautiful, Mom”, even when I’m still wiping sleep from my eyes in the darkness of early morning and know her idea of beauty will be changing in due time.

Getting a genuine smile and sharing a joke with the Teen… and when she unexpectedly puts her arms around me and her head on my shoulder. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, all is right with the world.

It’s things like Sadie putting her head on my knee and gazing up into my eyes, her stub of a tail flickering gently, and expecting nothing more than some love in return.

A lingering touch from the Hubby.

Sharing evenings with the best friends I’ve ever had, knowing that they love me every bit as much as I love them. Their laughter shining in their eyes, and their solid, comforting arms…

Our voices blending together, making such wonderful music…

ShaMoo and J-B, who began haiku-ing (and then blogging with me!) simply to make me happy? It does, you guys. You have no idea.

And this blog… and all of you. Whatever this is… all of this is what makes me happy. I’m a very lucky woman, and I know it.

Often the “little things” in life are the biggest things of all.

I was actually looking forward to Amoeba being gone two weeks — no cooking, no cleaning, no ironing, nobody’s schedule but my own — and I found I missed our morning chats as I prepared his breakfast. I missed the body heat from his side of the bed. Seeing his bicycle in the garage even made me sad. usually when I pull in and see his bicycle, I know he is home and a warm hug awaits, but not for the last two weeks ….

  2. This is such a sweet post, I love the photos of the hands too. I like thinking about the little things that make me happy, sometimes it really helps to write a list and realise how lucky we really are.

My list would be conceptually quite similar, sans dog, and instead of singing, I shove air through a variable length flared metal tube.

    Cheers!
