You know… that Blog?

Yowsa… spicy!

Written By: Jenn - Aug• 02•13

If you’ve been around a while, you may know that I’m not a fan of spicy food. Or… maybe you don’t. No matter! I’m not, nor is the Hubby or the girls. So why, then, am I sitting here with my mouth on fire, continuing to shovel this stuff into my face??

sauce

Because it is SO SO good, that’s why. Sweet, spicy… and bloody addictive. Say it with me now; Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce. Doesn’t that just make your mouth water??

I got it at Costco after I had some at my folks’ place a couple weekends ago. This stuff is good with just about anything! Use it as a salsa with chips, as a marinade, a burger condiment, over meat or fish on the BBQ or in the oven, and even in the crock pot! So versatile.

I purposely haven’t looked at the nutrient panel on the bottle, because I just don’t want to know how much sugar is in it. A lot, I’m sure.

I did find a recipe online today though, so I’m going to be making it when we get through this bottle… which won’t be too long.

Please head on over to see Lori at “Our Forever House” and get her spot-on recreation of this wonderful, addictive stuff. Say Hi for me!

How are you spending your long weekend (assuming you’re looking at one this weekend)? I’m so lucky… we’re cleaning out our garage. Yes, that was sarcasm. Yeah yeah, I know it’s necessary, and we’re running out of time to get it done – the Teen will need a vehicle to commute back & forth to college come September, which will mean an additional vehicle in our household – but geez. I could think of so many different ways I’d rather spend a glorious, sunny long weekend. You see… it’s JAM PACKED with boxes from our move. Yes, I realize that was 10 months ago. Yes, I know we should have dealt with it before now. Get off my back, will you??

Well, maybe it won’t take the whole weekend. A girl can dream, right?

Summer time food

As you can well imagine, I’m a bit turned off of just about everything right now due to the Coke nonsense we just went through. It’s over, the Hubby is back to work, and I’m not going to belabour the point. Suffice it to say I’m heading in a healthy healthier direction, and that doesn’t include soft drinks of any ilk.

Today my friend Angela turned me onto a blog (Weight Plates and Roller Skates) that she follows, and as it turns out, Blogger Laura’s latest post appeals to my healthier-summer-self. I especially like the thought of “Lettuce Tacos”, which you’ll find about half way down her post. I’m definitely trying them for dinner this weekend! Head on over to Laura’s blog to say “Hi”.

Coca Cola Lockout in Brampton: Over

Written By: Jenn - Jul• 19•13

I am relieved and happy to report that CAW Local 973 and Coca Cola have come to an agreement that both sides can live with. The vote was ratified early this afternoon, with 83% of the votes in favour of accepting the new deal. We gave up nothing that we were fighting so hard to protect, and we made significant improvements to providing and maintaining a safe working environment for employees.

We (the union, the employees, the families, other unions and individuals) fought hard, using Social Media as well as traditional strike methods, and this has made all the difference in the world. When you come together the way we have, anything, clearly, is possible.

I’m going to return to “regular programming” on my blog shortly. The posts I’ve made regarding this lockout, however, will remain on my website. So will the comments made on those posts, although I have just finished going over them and shortening actual employee names to initials. That was done solely to protect employees due to the strict social media policy Coca Cola has in place. I don’t work for Coke, and I am not governed by their mandates. The comments made on my website now belong to me. My husband posted nothing whatsoever to social media during this campaign, so he has not and will not violate any such policy. He chose instead to spend his time on the picket line in support of his fellow workers. My posts were mine alone.

A huge THANK YOU to the many other unions and individuals who came to our aid during the past 3 weeks. You recognized that our fight was also your fight, and the fight of all Middle Class Canadians, unionized or not. We could not have done this alone.

This battle is over, but the fight continues for thousands of other employees and families across the country. I hope that we have made and will continue to make a difference for you as well.
