You know… that Blog?

You’ve left me, haven’t you…

Written By: Jenn - Aug• 13•12

I don’t blame you. I’ve been a dodgy blogger for a while now. Except for my weekly Sensational Haiku, I post almost nothing at all!

Yep, I’m busy. So are you though, and most of you manage to publish a few thoughts now and then. I think my last “real” post said something about doing better for you… clearly, I failed. I suck. Wait though; I felt inspired today! Here I am!

Ok, so is it September yet?? As great as my kids are (with the Teen being AWOL most of the summer), I’m ready to return to normal programming. Keeping Wee One entertained enough to prevent implosions is taking a lot of time. Weekly play dates with her besties helps a lot. Even better that the BFFs’ moms are also MY besties! She’s also taking riding lessons, which she adores. I grew up on horseback, so I can relate!

Sure, getting Mom-kid pedicures isn’t really a chore (Sooooo glad I had daughters), but you know what I mean. Our summer vacations from school are just too long. I would absolutely love to do it the way some other countries do it – with a week or two off at decent intervals, instead of 9-10 weeks at a stretch. It’s. Too. Much. I know that part of the reason it hasn’t changed is that it’s just too hot here in the summer months, and most schools don’t have air conditioning. They’d bake their brains instead of filling them. Fixing that would be a massive expense, and it’s easier to just give everyone the season off.

Yuck, though.

I’m done with the sweltering heat we get here in Toronto. High humidity, while good for your skin, is otherwise horrid. I want to wear sweaters again, dammit! There is a lot to be said for covering what shouldn’t ever be seen. I loves me a cozy sweater.

I want autumn. I want cool, crisp air, bright sunny days, and the return of the daily school routine.

Oh, and I want our house. Our “firm” close date of August 9th has come and gone, and as of Saturday they had just started bringing the drywall to the second floor. Not putting it up, mind you. Just carrying it up the stairs. These things take time, yo.

We’ll be getting our key on September 20th – 6 weeks after our firm close date. The only saving grace here is that they have to pay us a substantial amount of money for every day after our closing date, which adds up to a really nice chunk of change, thankyouverymuch. I have some great plans for that cash!

We snuck in the other day when Security was asleep otherwise occupied, and were very pleasantly surprised by the drywall preparation. Everything is sealed up tight with vapor barrier and tape, and the place is super insulated. We will be snug as bugs there. If we ever move in. *sigh*

In other news, we had a very stressful time with Sadie last week, and were leaning towards making a pretty hard decision. She was completely lame, and her back end was so bad she couldn’t even get off the floor without major, heartbreaking effort. I took her to the vet to see what could be done to make her comfortable, or… discuss the final step. He suggested that we put her on Metacam – which I knew about, but didn’t think it would do much for her given her age and the deterioration of her hips. I agreed though, if only to keep our sweet dog around a while longer. See, this almost-13-year-old dog of ours still thinks she’s a puppy, and she’s a very happy girl. It’s her body that won’t cooperate. Arthritis and a broken ligament have really done a number the past couple of years. If she were behaving like a miserable old dog just waiting to die, it would be an easy/kind decision to make. I just can’t stand the thought of putting her down when she’s still so vibrant, though. In her state last week, the stairs at the new house would be absolutely impossible, and she’s too big for me to carry.

Wait… she just zoomed by me, chasing the cat.

Metacam is a miracle drug! I’m kicking myself that I didn’t look at putting her on it a year ago! In one day, she went from not being able to get off the floor and dangling a mostly useless hind leg to not only using that hind leg but leaping off the floor (not kidding) and running around like a pup. Night and day difference. Can’t believe that only a few days ago I was considering euthanizing her, and today she’s bouncing around, chasing Boo and flipping her toys over her back. We could get another year or two out of our beautiful girl, and that thrills me to no end!

Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”

The basics: Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)

Here are the rules:

Structure: While Haiku may be written by some in other styles, for THIS meme only 5-7-5 is acceptable. At least one of your haiku must be in this format.
Theme/Prompt: We have a new prompt each week, and your haiku needs to be related to it, if not include the actual word in it. Feel free to leave a word suggestion in a comment!
Linking: When you post your link, link to the blog post with your haiku, not to the main page of your blog.
Reciprocate: If you participate and post your link on my website, you must have a link back here on your post. It’s only fair.

Folks not complying with the above risk having their links removed. Don’t make me be all “Grrrr” and stuff, it makes me grumpy! Thanks for your cooperation!

P.S. This is a really busy time for me – I may not get around to everyone each week. Sorry about that, but unfortunately I need to attend to business before pleasure!

This week’s theme is: Courage

    A spirit’s journey
    Infinite scenarios
    Into the unknown

Against all advice
Disregarding little voice
Doing what is right

    Step into the light
    Look around, it’s your moment
    Breathe, then sing it out

Courage in actions
Quintessentially, it’s this;
Raising kids. ‘Nuff said.

*** Please read the 4 simple guidelines above before you post your link.

₪ Next week’s theme: Sojourn

Folks, a quick note about comments: A few of you don’t have Name/URL enabled on your blogs, and I CAN’T comment in that case. Take a moment to enable that, will you? There are other ways to combat spam and still allow people with their own domains to leave their homage to your greatness ;)

Nothing makes me happier than to see new people getting “hooked on haiku”! Keep it going to make it to the Hooked on Haiku List (if you’re not listed and should be, please [politely] let me know!)

To participate in this week’s event, please use the following code in your post on your own blog (if you don’t have a blog, post your Haiku as a comment):

You can also choose to use only a text link, or either of these additional images I made for your use! Use This one (dark), or This one (light)!
