Ok, so the Challenge for our Haiku-versary did not go as expected, and we didn’t get a single new haiku-er to join us! Wow, colour me disappointed. Perhaps I didn’t publicize it as well as I should have. I don’t believe it was lack of interest, because… well, it’s haiku, and that makes it cool. ‘Nuff said. I’ll do something different for our next challenge, and someone will definitely win!

We did get some past haiku-ers back though, and that was delightful to see!! Welcome back to the fold, friends! ;)

It’s Challenge Day, and our first Haiku-versary!

The Challenge for our Haiku-versary is to bring in the most new Haiku-ers (“new” meaning never participated here before, and ideally people who will join us and stick around!). Please have your new Haiku-er identify themselves as coming from you in the comments, and use the proper graphic and link (below) on their blog. The winner* of our challenge will get their choice of a $25 gift card to Starbucks, Tim Hortons, or iTunes, and be announced with next week’s haiku!

Folks, this is our 50th Haiku Wednesday! I’ve decided that we’re going to have a “Challenge” in 2 weeks for our 1 year Haiku-versary. Start thinking about it now! Our numbers have waned somewhat the last couple of months, which is sad since we have such a great Haiku community happening here. Let’s get the word out, and get some new faces in here!

The challenge will be to bring in the most new Haiku-ers (ideally people who will join us and stick around), and the winner will get… well I’m not sure yet. I’ll announce that next week… ;)

JennyMac is one of the best bloggers out there – I enjoy her so much. I don’t usually need much prompting to extol the many virtues of this brilliant, vibrant gal, and today is no different – its her Blog’s birthday, and she’s got a most fabulous giveaway going! I really mean fabulous too – how often do you see a personal blog giving away a Jimmy Choo handbag as a prize??

I don’t have much else to do a full post on, so I think I’ll just tie up some loose ends! Besides, I’m not feeling all that great. My head is stuffy and I’m super dizzy. *cue Awwwwwws *

On Tuesday night when we got to the pub after rehearsal, my first order of business was to determine Cleavage’s name. Her name is Robin. Easy to remember, because John-boy sits beside another Robin in the tenor section. Mission accomplished. We look forward to many many more years of being served by Cleavage Robin at our local gin joint. (Some habits are hard to break.)

I visited my doctor on Monday, and the conversation ran something like this:

I mentioned that I’ve had a bit of a dry/sore throat for a while… :

Doc: about HOW long, Jenn?
Me: Oh, a couple months probably, maybe longer.
Doc: What are you, dumb? You should have come in when it started! Your throat is bright red, and your nodes are swollen. Good grief woman. Come see me again in a few days. Honestly. I can’t believe you waited so long.

My doctor and I have a great relationship. I love that she’s so candid and we can talk about anything at all. Anyway, she took a swab, wrote me a prescription for antibiotics, and gave me another head shake.

I went back yesterday to see her, and I was about half an hour early for my appointment. She waved me in as I walked through the door, and said “Oh Jenn, I just love you so much!” and gave me a huge hug. Of course, this isn’t normal doctor behavior, so naturally the first thing through my head was “Holy crap, she’s about to tell me I’m dying!”

Turns out she’d just received a phone call that her 6 year old son fell at school and cracked his head, and she was trying to get out of the office to get to him. So me showing up early was a huge relief to her. Yikes. Well, I’m relieved too – thanks for scaring me, Doc! We did the visit at double speed, and she was out the door before I left the office. Turns out she doesn’t think it’s a throat infection now, and thinks I have acid reflux disease. Well, that would certainly explain things better than my throat being infected for close to 3 months! And the fact that I get a lot of heartburn, and sometimes wake up in the middle of the night choking from a severely dry throat. Mystery solved. I’ve also noticed that my voice has changed the last few months, and I’m hoping that treatment will allow my vocal cords to get back to normal.

We broke another record with our haikus yesterday! Woooot!!

As you’re probably aware, I’ve decided to change the name of Silly Haiku Wednesday to something more appropriate – there was a lot of controversy over the usage of “Silly” in the name. It’s true – we’re rarely silly, and the amount of time and effort that goes into the haiku that is submitted is staggering. Silly just doesn’t fit. I’m going to think about it for a few days, and then decide. I’ll let you know!

Wee one lost her first tooth on Monday night. My wee baby is growing so fast. I’m sad.

Knarf, ShaMoo and I were supposed to go Geocaching today, but I’m just not up to it. That and it’s bloody cold out there!! -16C (3F) with the windchill… yick. I don’t feel any guilt for wussing out – I do NOT like being cold. Maybe that’s why I started getting sick last night – it’s psychosomatic! We’ll go next week when it’s above freezing. K9Crazy wants to go too, so I’ll be setting up a date with her one day soon.

That about wraps my thursday thunks (still not a meme). Enjoy your day! I’m going to go have a nap.

For a long time I’ve found toddler beauty pageants disturbing. I can’t be the only person who clearly sees how destructive and, well, evil it is for these disgusting, socially retarded people to dress innocents up like [...]]]> I’m going to switch gears for a minute and talk about something that has been bothering me for years.

For a long time I’ve found toddler beauty pageants disturbing. I can’t be the only person who clearly sees how destructive and, well, evil it is for these disgusting, socially retarded people to dress innocents up like Fake Tart Barbie, and parade them around for all to see.

As the mother of 2 beautiful, intelligent daughters, maybe this just hits a little too close to home for me. I cannot imagine loving my children so little that I would put them through something like this. It’s my job to protect my babies from the world and the pedophiles in it, not dress them up like fantasy creatures and throw them to the wolves – who are probably those involved in “judging” these pageants – so I can feel better about myself.

Did these mothers and father – oh.my.god. – who are obviously living vicariously through their babies, not learn a single thing from the Jon Benet Ramsey tragedy? We all know that sad little girl’s story so I won’t belabor it here.

This morning as I was putting this post together I spent some time on YouTube, looking for videos to emphasize my words. I found a huge amount of commercialized videos that are supposed to be showing the “happy world of child beauty pageants”, but really just showed crazed mothers doing horrible things to their little girls, all of whom were uncomfortable and complaining about it, all in the name of their idea of beauty. What prepubescent child should be put through having her eyebrows shaved, hair viciously teased and ratted, her entire body, head to toe, spray painted with tanner, and her teeth bleached? What message does that give the child? That she isn’t pretty enough – not good enough – without having hours and hours of work done on a regular basis. That’s what.

I could go on and on, but this video sums up exactly how I feel about these women:

Momtards indeed! These disgusting, brainless bimbos should be jailed for what they have done and are doing to their children.

I cannot believe this show is on TLC. Exactly what are we supposed to learn from this travesty? That it’s ok to exploit children, and sexualize them by dressing them up like hookers? That it’s hunky-dorey to stress your toddler out, pressure and bully her to perform, and berate her when she fails? How about how it’s chic to try to relive your own failed dreams by channeling your miserable desires through your own child? Oh and let us not forget that these degenerates are also making money off the labors of their daughters.

This channel used to have integrity, but now they clearly only care about what gives them the biggest bang for the buck. I won’t allow my children to watch it anymore – we are officially boycotting TLC, which is a real shame, because there are some other great shows to be seen on that channel.

Shame on the parents, judges and supporters of this horrible, fake world. Bigger shame on the media for glorifying it.
